Episode 8: Mysteries of Shoal Creek
Hey guys! Been busy with ghost tours and Nerd Nite, but I've been putting together the research for the next episode (and I ordered a new mic! Hurrah!) In the meantime, listen to Episode 8 on the Mysteries of Shoal Creek if you haven't already! Shoal Creek has so many stories, both with verifiable records and other things are the stuff of legend. Verifiable records include bodies that were buried along the banks, most of which were dug up and placed in proper cemeteries...but not were found. Other stories are from the famous writer, O.Henry, who went on a treasure hunt looking for gold buried at Shoal Creek. These stories and others keep the mystery alive around this lovely trail, especially when you walk after dark (at your own risk, of course!)
Be back soon with new mic and new story!

Episode 5: Suicide Brides: Fact vs. Fiction
This episode takes a close look at the fact vs. fiction behind Austin's treasured gothic ghost story. The most reliable book I reference is The Grand Dame of Austin: A History of The Driskill Hotel by Monte Akers. You can purchase this book at BookPeople, in Austin, or through the Austin History Center Association. It is well researched and has a bit of spunk throughout the book.
Here is a photo I took of the lobby in the Driskill Hotel so that you can get an idea of it's southern grandure and understand how this setting is perfect for a good ghost story.

Upcoming Events...
Hello everyone! I just wanted to let you know about some upcoming events in the Austin area. Great history and a lot of fun!
If you want to learn about authentic Austin history, Save Austin's Cemeteries is hosting a walking tour of historic Oakwood Cemetery. Actors will tell the stories, graveside, of the folks that were buried after an untimely death. Creepy and fun way to get a history lesson.
"Austin Archives Bazaar is free & open to the public! The event features archives and special collections repositories from across Central Texas. Hear from an awesome line-up of speakers who use local archives, record a story in the oral history booth, get advice on how to preserve your memories at the Preservation Station, view an archival film screening, take old-timey pictures in a photo both, win door prizes, enjoy local brews, and chat up your local archivist!"
